A virtual conversation series on re-building systems for our collective liberation

As a fellowship rooted in supporting the power and movements of leaders in the food system, one of our main mandates is to cultivate and uplift the good - find the joy, the beauty, and the new way forward to creating the world rooted in justice we all yearn to build. At Castanea, I am beyond privileged to be surrounded by brilliant thinkers and beautiful humans. From spending time with fellows at immersions, to being in conversation with community advisors, to reading the hundreds and hundreds of fellowship applications that pour in detailing the deep and committed work happening in every corner of the U.S., my days are filled with tantalizing conversations and ideas.

This series is our way of ever broadening the Castanea community by diving into necessary conversations on a broader scale. Through this four-part series, we’ll dive into conversations with leaders who are all working in their own way to create the conditions for structural change through upending power dynamics, reshaping narratives, and creating more liberated systems. We’ll explore how power comes through bold and different ways of visioning that challenges and expands our existing assumptions and structures, and how we can build the new systems and ways of being rooted in justice and liberation.

The first in our series centers on fascism and democracy, exploring how our relationships to land and food intertwine with the forces that define our systems. Dara Cooper will moderate this dynamic panel that includes Maurice Mitchell from the Working Families Party, M. Adams from the Movement for Black Lives, and Vivien Sansour from the Palestine Heirloom Seed Library. I hope you can join us and register today.
